A great adventure story with a shy Bayani, a young psychic entrepreneur, a fierce girl fighting nightmares, and a classic bully. Also an insightful Lola, the best psychic sidekick, guinea pigs, hearing aids, dogs and snakes, issues of language and communication, and the start of summer and friendships. Deeply satisfying descriptions, voices, character building, stories within stories.

This is the story of several middle school kids who are all outsiders in their own way. It does a good job capturing the loneliness of kids at that ago who are having a hard time fitting in with their peers. This was last year's Newbery winner, and well deserved.
