A few years ago I read an incredibly powerful book, Suicide Watch. I felt everything to the extreme with this book.
I Was Here had a numbing effect on me, which is what I expect you feel like when you are left in the aftermath of suicide. You become a shell filled with grief and blame. When Cody's best friend Meg commits suicide, Cody not only feels devastated but also confused and angry. She and Meg knew everything about each other - how did Cody miss this? It is a really good book! I was struggling the first third, I just couldn't get into the story. But the it caught me and I really liked the end. Of course Meg is still dead but I think it's great to see how Cody handles the death. Also I was really touched by the authors note in the end.

An 'issues'-focused book that's really disappointing, coming from Gayle Forman. When you miss the characters for the theme, you cease to care.
