The 13th book in this series is one of my favorites. Takes place almost entirely in Three Pines. There is an interview with Louise Penny in the last CD, and she admits that Three Pines is not a real place but rather a state of mind. As she says, "Three Pines exists when we choose tolerance over hate, kindness over cruelty, goodness over bullying, when we choose to be hopeful over being cynical, then we live in the village of Three Pines".

Ever imaginative, Penny delivers another mystery in which Gamache supports the spirit rather than the actual law. he does wrong to, hopefully produce a greater right. Penny's afterward and credits are worth a read at the end of the book.
