Somewhat more successful than his debut, The Expats, if still dependent on a very particularly curated set of circumstances to hold together. The premise is an intriguing one, and Pavone's approach to how someone might disappear in a world increasingly defined by connection and accessibility seems logically plausible. The highlight, though, is how Pavone breaks down (and sends up) the day-to-day of modern book publishing and draws intrigue out of it.
