A weird, elliptical, hilarious book. Has a lot of fun with the idea that historical fiction often attempts to fill in details that its subjects would have been at a loss to describe.

2nd try, it isn't meant to be. I appreciate the first half for the scene it sets but then the book becomes so tiresome and repetitive once the characters take over. I apparently have missed what others have loved.
