Although this is a short book, it is beautifully written and packs a punch. Told from the perspective of a man looking back on one summer of his young life it captures life in a small town, complicated family issues, racism and abuse. As we are finally acknowledging the abuses heaped upon indigenous people, Montana 1948 peels back the cover on what was/is probably a not too uncommon occurrence.
