Firegirl is a very touching book about a girl who survives and a deadly incident and her body is severely burned. She attends school and is faced with the fears of middle schoolers who shun her and stare at her. I was captivated by Tom the narrator and his story. In the end, I cried with compassion and my faith in humanity was restored.

This was a quick read, but a good one. It shows a slice of life for a middle school boy who is struggling with fitting in and learning who he is. The emotions and actions wrapped around "Firegirl" (Jessica) are genuinely sad and happy at the same time.
