Kent is one to watch - she grounds her tale historically with deep accuracy, but never lets her research get in the way of the fictional story she's telling. She deftly communicates just enough of how things were in Iceland at the time that you have a strong sense of place, and her characters are richly drawn. Can't wait to see what she's working on next.

Set in Iceland in the 18th century, this historical novel is truly a gem. I learned about prisons in Iceland and the reasons for which one could be imprisoned were not what you would expect.

Atmospheric, sad and quietly powerful. I can’t believe this has been on my #TBR for 4 years and I finally got around to it. If you are in the mood for a haunting, poetic tale that is a suspenseful page turner, this is your book!
