Wonderful location descriptions! Unfortunately the Isle of Moila is fictional but we're told it is an island in the Scottish Hebrides between the Isle of Mull and another island, Tiree, which is further west. A visit via Google maps to look at Hebridean islands was fun for me.
For location alone, this novel has got to be one of my favorite Mary Stewart novels. It is very atmospheric and were it not for the midges I would want to go there.

This was an interesting Mary Stewart story and includes a setting I would travel to at this very moment. The story itself was not told with the same strength and energy found in her stories that I have read. The plot includes a less mysterious crime element and the cast of characters seem to move in and out of the story in a more random way somehow. I would classify this as a much less romantic suspense tale also.
