What Members Thought

Of course I decided to read after the "big reveal".
I enjoyed this book. It was a solid detective story,
and it does amaze me how effortlessly JK Rowling
manages to switch genres.
One minor quibble..think it is interesting that she chose
to write this book as a "man". Think only a man would
have a broke, ugly, out of shape detective with "pubic hair"
on his head be able to bed gorgeous supermodels and
gorgeous heiresses. Even if he was a war hero with a
cool name. Just didn't seem realistic at all. ...more

Honestly: If I didn't know that this is JK Rowlings book, I would have never made it until the end. Or even the middle part. The story is quite good, but all in all it was boring. Too many interviews and dialogues and way too less action. Strike has a cool name but his character is a little bit flat, in my opinion.
Nevertheless, the last quarter was better. It catched me - a little. The end was not surprising, I already had this suspicion ;)

He needs a temporary office worker to be his secretary for a week, even though he can no longer afford one, and Robin, who works for a temp service, takes the job. As the story develops, Robin is fascinated with helpin
