Much better than I expected. The strong writing pulled me through, though it was never explained why Bristow hired Cormoran Strike in the first place. Loved the London detail.

In general, though, her books are way too expensive! This literally stops me from going on with the series.

Cormoran strike is a private investigator who is hurting for clients when John Bristow comes to Cormoran's office and hires him to look into the supposed suicide of John's sister the supermodel Lula Landry. Cormoran has just gotten a new temporary secretary Robin who proves to be very useful in the investigation. JK Rowling can write mysteries as well as young adult series. The book needed a lot of editing - but who would edit J.K.Rowling - long winded conversations meant to be like real life, but tedious to read. I liked the character of Cormorant Strike (great name) and his relationship to his secretary Robin. But the storyline was nothing new, people fighting over money and all th ...more

I'm not a fan of this book. It is slow, and took me almost three months to get myself to finish it. Not much happens in the beginning, and for a crime "thriller" that's a failure. The story picks up the pace in the last few chapters. Also, I felt that the story ended with many loose ends. Definitely not reading anything else by Robert Galbraith. Life is too short. ...more
