This is a wonderful story that tugs at the heartstrings, as Josie fights her way out of the bad business of being a prostitute's daughter in New Orleans in the 40's and 50's. Josie wants to go to college, but circumstances keep getting in her way. Thanks to a brothel-owner with a heart of gold, a chauffeur who watches over her, and her best friend, whose bookstore she works in, she has a chance at something, although she is not sure just what that something with turn out to be. ...more
