The book starts with Stephanie and Lulu witnessing a robbery and Stephanie seeing the robbers face. Stephanie's car also gets destroyed by a Molotov cocktail during the robbers escape. The robber ends up belonging to a gang and the gang has a hit man come in to take out Stephanie along with other targets. Stephanie leaves Joe, again, and ends up finding Rangers apartment and staying there while he is out of town. Sally Sweet, who was apparently in book 4, returns as a failure to appear who ends
