This is the first of the Dandy Gilver books I've read and right up until the very end, I was sure I had found a new series that I could love and recommend. And I wish I could write about my hesitancy without spoiling, but that is pretty much impossible.

This was the first Dandy Gilver novel that I have read, and I have been very impressed. I like the 'country house murder with tons of suspects'-type of mystery, and this one fits the bill perfectly. The heroine reminds me of Maisie Dobbs and the plot, of an Agatha Christie mystery, both favorites of mine. An added bonus was the surprise villain , and I have read so many mysteries that it is hard to surprise me! I will definitely be reading more of this series.

Another lively, intriguing entry into the Dandy Gilver series. While she has been compared to Maisie Dobbs, Maisie always seems a little too arrogant and "intuitive" for me. Dandy is funny, not so young, not so free to become romantically entangled and has a rapier wit. Not only that but the mysteries are good solid construction with delightful twists and turns. A good series.
