My fourth-grade teacher loved horses. She loved Marguerite Henry. Every day, after lunch, she read aloud from this book and, after finishing it, another Marguerite Henry book. Horse-crazy, she was, and horse-crazy our class became.
This is a recommendation from my 10 year old niece who absolutely adores horses. It's also a classic that a lot of people have read and enjoyed. I liked the story line but didn't really like the way it was written. Misty (the female horse) is also consistently referred to as a colt instead of a filly.
Overall, pretty good. It's great for children ages 7 and older and anyone who loves horses or have been to Chincoteague. ...more
