This is my first Arnaldur Indrioason novel featuring Inspector Erlendur, the weary
Icelandic detective who must solve a murder that spans several decades. The novel also won the "Glass Key Award" given annually to Nordic crime writers. I was impressed by the good writing and compelling plot and now want to read the series. Recommend to crime fiction readers.

This was my second book in the genre of Icelandic Noir. I listened to the book and it was narrated by George Guidall. I found his voice very familiar and it turns out he also narrates books by Daniel Silva. I had recently listened to The Order. Guidall is an excellent narrator. This book however was too dark for me. It took place is Rekjavik - but could have been anywhere. The subjects included rape, murder and family secrets, but in a very depressing and not very hopeful way. The writing style

I've tried reading this more than once, and I'm utterly mystified over this book's reputation. I realize it's a translation, but I doubt a translation is totally responsible for such clunky and unbelievable dialogue. Overall the writing is bland as it gets. It's kind of hard to establish that famous nordic noir atmosphere with such pedestrian writing.
