I saw this for 100en and decided to check it out since the series was the inspiration for the TV show Bones. Though the supporting cast is missing and Brennan's background is completely different, I felt like I was watching a twisted season plot unfold. I skimmed the gory maggots bits and just focused on the mystery. It was fun. The Southern charm bits were hokey but endearing. Far-fetched--yes. Ludicrous--often. But I dig the forensic anthropology angle, and in this second book of the series, Dr. Brennan is less of a ninny than she was in the first book.

Predictable in places, but more believable than other entries in the series. That said, you'd think that Tempe would run out of relatives to be imperiled.
