Great, solid mystery. I'm not usually a fan of slow reveal books like this (you know from the start what happened, but not quite, who it happened to, but not quite, and who did it, but not quite), but this was engaging without making me want to shout 'get on with it already.'
Read this as part of attempt to read through one of those '100 best mysteries' lists. Was waffling between three and four stars, but think it really deserves four. Good plot and characters - that's what a mystery novel need ...more

Beautifully written mystery about a group of acquaintances who end up spending a summer at an estate which was recently inherited by one of them. A murder has happened and the book goes back and forth between 1976 and 1986 until we know what happened. Gorgeous descriptions of the house and the gardens - it really is one of the characters. Lots of different points of view and kept my interest all throughout the story.
