To date, probably my favorite Maigret novel. Generally, I've liked them all, but "The Yellow Dog" was the series entry where I felt closest to the great detective. Written in 1936 (quickly, no doubt), "The Yellow Dog" involves a number of seemingly unconnected attacks (shootings, poisonings) at a seacoast town. One of the better books in Georges Simenon's Inspector Maigret series. A shooting and attempted poisoning of four friends living in a rural, seaside village draw the national media and have the town living in fear. The mayor wants someone arrested - anyone - and Maigret obliges him. But not by arresting the person everyone is blaming.
