This account of Shackleton's expedition is targeted at young adult readers, but adults will enjoy it as well. I'd gotten it for my 12-year-old son, but subsequently loaned it to several of my ESL students who wanted to read an adventure story. Wonderfully illustrated with many of the original photos taken by Frank Hurley during the voyage, this is an accessible and inspiring book. It won the 1999 Orbis Pictus Award (given for outstanding nonfiction for children).

Although this book was written for a young adult audience, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Great pictures, engrossing story.
