I hadn't read this in decades, and at first I was surprised that I hand't remembered how funny it is. By the end, that was tempered, as the satire was abandoned in favor of heavy-handed observations on nature and love and absurd (not in the good sense) dialogue, where people were describing each others' characters. Too bad! But for all that, Forster was ahead of his time in his views on women.
