"Missing Person" is the third or fourth novel I've read by Modiano. All of his novels (so far) revolve around identity and memory, with lots of noirish atmosphere. "Missing Person" strikes me as the best so far. I actually ran across a comment recommending this book as perhaps the best entry point for reading Modiano. I enjoyed my previous reads, but "Missing Person" is the most anchored, but that's not exactly saying a lot. Memories are slippery things, especially so when main character, privat ...more

I really wanted this to be SO GOOD. But it turned out to be a warm glass of milk, or a no-salt cracker. It was merely a book that I needed to read so I could get it out of the house. I had high hopes, and every single hope was dashed on the shores of mediocrity. I hate to say it, truly I do… but it was boring.
