Oh my God - this is my most favorite of the books in this series that I have read. I love all the characters, the village of Three Pines, the bistro, and particularly the storylines in this book. The plot, the murder, the corruption and the wonderful resolution. I was crying while listening to the last three chapters - that's how emotionally satisfying the ending was. There were so many surprises none of which I of course anticipated.

Just reread this book and it is a perfect Inspector Gamache book. I loved the title based on the song "Anthem" by Leonard Cohen. There were three story lines: the mystery within the Surete, the mystery of the woman who is murdered at the beginning of the story, and the plight of jean Guy. All three were so interesting to me and had satisfying resolutions. I found out the story behind Ruth's most famous poem. This series justs gets better and better. The author masterfully creates a community populated by people you care about so you want to savor the journey, yet ratchets up the tension enough that you want to race through to get to the outcome. I've never read a series before that walks this line in such a perfect way.
