I read this as part of preparation for a trip to India. Thanks to the author for making this epic poem into a readable (and shortened) prose form. And also for including a list of characters in the front- this is indeed a complicated tale with a lot of characters. Bottom line- worth the read, for the understanding of the many references to this tale which are encountered by travellers. I might know who (or what) the temple statues represent now!
