The best thing about this book is the
title. Middle-aged woman is abandoned
by her husband for m-a-w's (very youthful)
assistant. I missed the revenge
of the title. Don't waste your time.

Like her novel Separate Beds, Revenge of the Middle-Aged Woman is almost too starkly real. In this case, gut-wrenchingly real. If you are around 50 (and I am) and if you've ever been married (and I have) then you know exactly how Rose feels. Or, if you are a man, you understand Nathan as his plan fails so well. Security for one, breeds insecurity for the other. Familiarity may not breed outright contempt but it can breed unwelcome complacency.

The story of Rose whose husband leaves her and the aftermath of this decision. I found it quite poignant and sad in place but also uplifting. I thought the characters and plot lines were very realistic.
