This is my first novel written by the author Peter May. The narrator was fine and the author created an interesting story with well-detailed characters, primarily male. The novel is focused on the lead detective, Fin Macleod, who is posted in Edinburgh, but originally from the Isle of Lewis in the Hebrides. This is more a lierary novel, a coming of age story of a sort, than a mystery although there are several deaths by misadventure or murder it's not clear which. Set on the island of Lewis in the Hebrides, one gets a great sense of place and the type of soul that can survive living in such a garsh place. First of a planned trilogy.
