I read this book for the first time almost 20 years ago. It's a classic summer story about American girls in the 80s-90s. Lots of nostalgic moments, teenage love scenes, and of course, complicated friendship. With Martha Vineyard as the setting, it's just a perfect reread for the summer.

I thought it read like a kid's book if kid's books were allowed to talk about sex and other adult topics. Maybe that's because I used to love Judy Blume as a kid, and couldn't separate the kid's books she wrote and this supposedly adult book. At worst, I thought of this as a romance novel. Definately fluffy and not the kind of fluff I usually like. At least it was a quick read. Probably couldn't have lasted if it was any longer, indeed I almost put it down after 100 pages.
