New Orleans in the 1920s--that's all it took for me to decide to read this. I never read past the first line of a book description because I don't want to know too much.
This is a parallel/mirror story of Raziela (what kind of name is that and how do you pronounce it anyway? Rah-zee-la or Rah-zee-ella?) and Amy. Raziela Nolan is a woman ahead of her time. She lives in the 1920's in New Orleans and is love with an amazing man. She wants to be a doctor and has applied to medical schools. She is an active feminist urging women to use birth control and leaves pamphlets in library books, all of which is against the law. The love of her life Andrew supports her and her feminist ideals and worries for her safety. They are the perfect couple. Then the unthinkable happens, Razi dies.

Although this took me a while to get into, by the time it hit its stride, I was totally enthralled by the love story. Touching and powerful idea.
