This novel based on the early life of Almanzo Wilder could be a first primer on farming and agriculture, and even animal husbandry. What a great gift for a young child to learn all this at an early age! The book is long but easily readable and the Garth Williams illustrations are treasures I'll have in my collection here for many long years, I hope. I love owning children's books with great art and intentionally got the set with full color pictures throughout.
