Will Tweedy (say it, like we do here in the South, as if it's one word---Willtweedy) lives in the middle of a quirky mix of family and friends in 1906 small-town Georgia. He's a fourteen-year-old boy who's trying to resist the push of his grandfather to run the family store, to come to terms with the death of his grandmother and the all-too-sudden remarriage of his grandfather to a completely inappropriate younger woman, and to figure out how to deal with his feelings for a poor mill girl.
