I love this woman's wit. I either had a smile or was chuckling to myself while reading this book. She's got quite the creative eye and ability to make great, quirky associations. Case in point: she compares Al Gore to Brian Krakow(the geek from the TV show, My So-Called Life) and infers that Al Gore would have been more likeable by taking cues from the Willow character on Buffy. A luminous essay collection mixing personal reverie, a passion for civics, and our troubled American history with the inimitable Vowell wit. After listening to her on NPR, I can hear her voice in my head as I read, making it that much better. Funny, smart, dorky, and some of the most levelheaded and reasoned writing on politics in a long time. A true treat.
