what a lovely, beautiful soul of a book. it took a while to get into the rhythm and language of the time and characters, but i absolutely loved Una's story and all those around her. I got so caught up in the novel that I forgot it was inspired by Moby Dick. I did not enjoy all the name-dropping and Emerson discussions/conversations. But I loved the descriptions of Una's love of nature, from the lighthouse to Kentucky hills, to the Nantucket shores, all the way to the stars.

I probably would give this a 3.5 if I could. It started to feel long at the end, but still, for a book that's over 650 pages, I was entertained the whole time.
