I am such a huge fan of this series. Over the years I've read it again and again. This is my favourite as it's the most complete book and in many ways the most romantic. It's set in the Borders and Midlothian region of Scotland and I was actually living there when I read this series so for me these images are so vivid. This book starts what is one of my favorite series ever. I've read them so many times but I keep coming back for more! The lead character, Francis Crawford, is a man of extraordinary talents but still flawed and vulnerable. He's a Scot from the Borders area and the books are set in the 16th century, at an exciting time in Scottish and English history.
