What a charming book! I loved the glimpse into the (true!) history of practice babies on college campuses in the 1920s-1960s, and the inevitable psychological impact that it would have on all participants involved. The perspective of the babies, students and professors made me think for quite awhile after I finished the book and I suspect I'll continue to think about it.

This was a fun summer read about Henry, a practice baby, meaning he was an orphan used in university classes about child rearing. He is a charming baby and grows into a charming man who cannot maintain any attachments to people because he sees them as interchangeable. Kind of an interesting premise. The most enjoyable parts of the book however were his days as an animator Disney studios and then for the movie Yellow Submarine. An interesting premise, but found Henry resistible about halfway through the book. That said, we did have a lively book group discussion.
