This memoir is unforgettable.
Harriet's slave narrative is different than others. Harriet doesn't get beaten unmercifully. Instead her owner's father lusts after her fanatically and as a very beautiful young woman she tries to maintain her purity. Meanwhile his wife's jealousy interferes with her ability to work in their household. She belongs to their child who is still growing up and is unable to remove her from the uncomfortable situation.
