This is a tough review for me because I wanted to like this book so much more than I did. I received it as part of a First Reads giveaway and was pretty excited to read it because 1) I've heard really good things about David Nicholl and 2) I am a Brit who has lived away from home for the last eight years, so I thought it would be pretty nostalgic to read a book set in the oh so hairy early days of Uni.

A laddish tale of a student who starts university in the mid 1980s and joins a team on University Challenge. Mostly the story covers his love-life or lack thereof but is an amusing account of being a teenager at that time with some poignant moments. I really enjoyed all the 80s references, being only a few years younger than Brian.
