What Members Thought
I read this book in December 2001 & didn't love this book the way I had her others. I read it again for our new book group & found that I had changed over the past 14 years & now thoroughly enjoyed each character in this book & especially the way that the stories wove together like honeysuckle vines in the back pasture. I am able to appreciate the character flaws/strengths as I see some if my own in the mirror.

I could not get past the beginning, too incredibly boring. I liked 'Poisonwood Bible', but not this... on an on and on with thick lush woods integrated with how sexual this woman was, brushing off this man who wanted her... ick!

Beautiful details about the Appalachian mountains and human kindness in their midst. Not a whole lot happens in this novel, but like a true Kingsolver novel, I was swept up in it immediately. It seems to end in medias res. I could have kept reading past its 600+ pages.
