What Members Thought

My main issue with this novel was that it didn't seem balanced. It was very historical with pieces about the war that needlessly went on and on but were not needed to further the story of Rhett's people. I also took issue with how weak (not sure if that's the word I really want) Rhett seemed. I would've liked more of his inner monologue and feelings, especially regarding happenings that were huge in GWtW. Aside from those few issues, I did enjoy it. I really liked the stories about Tunis Bonneau

My sister-in-law is from Alabama & loaned me this book. I hadn't really spent much time in the past 30 years considering the ramifications of the Civil War on the South. This book was light enough to enjoy & long enough to cover the personal side of the War. It was a good book.

Worthwhile read for Gone With the Wind fans. It told the familiar story from Rhett Butler's point of view and added interesting details of his life and family. It got off to a slow start but got more interesting as the book got closer to the events detailed in Gone With the Wind. I enjoyed the book and recommend it.
