An excellent Victorian mystery by Anne Perry, this story has bodies being exhumed illegally and showing up in strange places, such as church pews, a carriage, and on the top of a tombstone. Thomas Pitt and his wife Charlotte have to figure out who is doing the dastardly deed, as well as who has murdered the body that was buried in someone else's grave. ...more

Perry captures the growing social awareness of the gentry vividly in this fourth entry in the series, and it also happens to feature my favorite secondary character, Aunt Vespasia.
