Quite enjoyable. I winced a bit at some parts describing how humans treat animals but this was only a small proportion of the book. It didn't end how I expected but then the author knows best! ...more

Hero John: mildly tiresome, wimpy; has no control over his surroundings, his work environment; oddly passive individual for someone who is supposed to be a journalist; further, he is a passive observer in his relationship with his wife. Would have been better if the story concentrated more on the bonobos. A quick read, despite its pagecount.

Didn't really enjoy much about this book. The characters, the plot, the writing. You have to really like monkeys to like this book. ...more

I liked the start of the book, but lost interest after the halfway point. The parts about the apes were interesting to me, but not so much the reporter and people associated with his storyline.

This was semi-interesting to read but certainly no where near as amazing and riveting as Water for Elephants. The apes were fun to love and your heart went out to them but the characters were just lacking something for me.

The bonobos are a wonderful subject matter and I want to know more! However, her story around the subject fell flat and just didn't quite capture my imagination like I wanted it to. ...more

Good book, but nothing compared to Water for Elephants. Great topic though, made me craving for more bonobos!! Nice story telling, decent characters. But that's it. ...more
