I read a lot of YA, but it's all fantasy and dystopia. I don't read much straight-up YA like this, but this book has been at the center of a few controversies, and my daughter wants to see the movie, so I was curious. Well. After having finished the book I can understand why the main character, Charlie, is emotionally stunted. But I still didn't care for his voice. I felt that he sounded and wrote much younger than a boy of 15 and 16, even an emotionally immature boy. I also, as I said in my status updates, didn't think that a boy of 16 would be so naive and innocent about sex.

I hadn't seen the movie yet, and I'm glad. This book was full of character development and I think if I had seen the movie first it would have tainted some of Charlie's descriptions of them. Plus, making epistolary novels into movies can be tough. I am going to watch it though because I'm curious how the film maker tackled the structure.
