I loved Richard Russo's Empire Falls and That Old cape Magic, so I had to appreciate this memoir. I can see where he got a lot of the material for his books - from his family life and the towns he grew up in. He is a very good writer and am sure I will read more of his books, but the story of his devotion to his very difficult mother was at times repetitive and not engaging. Still i respect his decision to continue to care for her and i applaud his family for understanding. ...more

Saw this book on a NPR book list. I have never read Richard Russo before and can't wait to read more of his books! This is a heartbreaking story as well completely honest. ...more
