I've known of Amy Dickinson mainly as a guest on NPR's "Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me." When I saw that she was going to be an author at the book festival I was attending, I decided to pick this up to read it before hearing her speak. Unfortunately, I couldn't get into any of her panels--they were filled to capacity hours in advance.

This is the best memoir I've read in recent memory. It was real and funny and brave and I want to be Amy's friend and I want to increase the tiny population of Freeville

I loved this book. I found the author so easy to relate with. Even though I'm not a single mother her stories about raising her daughter really touched me, especially since I also have a daughter named Emily. I grew up in a small town with a little creek in the back yard. I have sisters. I wasn't expecting much from this book but was so glad I read it. It made me laugh and cry. ...more

This is a charming read by the woman who replaced Ann Landers. Her life as a single mother is described with humor and honesty. An easy, pleasant read.
