What Members Thought
The 4 stars are for the writing, and for the final two chapters. Jesmyn Ward is a hell of a writer. But I had a really hard time with all the dog fighting stuff.

I was very distracted through the first half of this book - which might say more about the quality of my attention these days than the quality of the writing. Eventually I felt totally hooked, although given the build up to the storm I actually would have liked more during and after.
I did like her memoir better than this, but I will definitely see our other novels by her.
