What Members Thought
My son introduced me to John Green (& his brother, Hank) about a year ago when he was studying for a middle school chemistry exam. He had somehow found the Green Brothers' video series, Crash Course, in which John and Hank take all that "boring" stuff that teachers teach and make it interesting and memorable. If you have never watched a Crash Course video, go watch one now! So, even though I have been a fan of John Green's for a year, The Fault in Our Stars is the first of his novels that I have

Reluctant to admit how much I enjoyed reading this book because it is a teen romance, and classified as young adult lit, and probably not something I would have chosen to read if I had known either of those things beforehand. But, I'm happy I didn't know. I downloaded the eBook sample on a whim and couldn't stop reading. I had to buy it to keep reading. I put several other books on hold because I couldn't put this one down.

John Green takes a difficult subject -- teenagers battling cancer -- and turns it into a novel that elicits both laughter and tears. I expected this to be sappy and melodramatic, but instead it's witty and intelligent. Hazel and Augustus face their illness bravely, while at the same time making fun of the fact that they are expected to do just that. At one point, Hazel laments the fact that she can't just be a "moody teenager." I would have liked to have read something like this when I was a tee

Fantastic (and so sad!) book!!
This was a beautiful and very well-written book. It's YA but read like it was meant for someone older. It was very intelligent and thought-provoking. I knew, going in, it was a book about cancer. So be prepared. It is not a light read. However, it has a lot of heart and humor throughout which makes it easier to take. Having lost people I love (not necessarily to cancer, but in other ways) makes me appreciate and relate with this all the more. What I took away most is that we can never take any d

I had tears rolling down my face this morning on the drive in to work. Rest in Peace, Augustus. [Funeral made worse by having attended several in the mortuary the family would have used if they were real.] WOW! What a powerful book (I have about 20 minutes left for tonight). Their discussions and single-book obsessions, their wish, etc., so reminded me of a teenage relationship of my own. I suppose because my kids are this age, this book resonated with me for so many reasons. Now I also feel for

When I checked this out the librarian said "you will need a box of tissues for this one!" It was beautifully written...and I found myself laughing just as much as crying! I must get my hands on another John Green book!

the audio version was just as good as the book. It was a great book to read and then to listen to again.
