Simply put, I loved this book. It's hard to believe it's a first novel for many reasons. The characters are very well drawn--so much so that you feel you know them intimately; you care about them and what happens to them. A strongly driven plot begins with Mabel & Bertie, two sisters in the early 20th century: a family secret and a twist of fate forever alters the course not only of their lives--but of the lives of their own children.
