Verity is a spy captured by the German gestapo during WWII. She gives in to torture and agrees to write an account of what she knows. The first two third of the book is the confession which is written third person style, which I found distancing. The story she writes down is more about how Verity became friends with the pilot Maddie than it is about war secrets. I found it hard to believe the gestapo would let her write this long rambling account that had nothing to do with the war. There was al ...more
