Briefly - I loved Harrison's Poison, and I admire her writing talent in general. However, I did not enjoy this book because of the structure, and the style did not "wow" me the way it did in Poison, where it seemed so well-matched to the events, adding atmosphere and poetry to a distressing situation. In this book, I found the style forced. It did not take me into a different world, and though it matched the content, it could not overcome my prejudice against a book with little plot. Set in Russia at the end of the reign of Nicholas II. The main character is one of the two daughters of Rasputin who survived after the horrendous death of her father. She and her sister are 'adopted' by the royal family as Czarina Alexandria hopes that she possesses the same medicinal powers of her father.
