I think this is essential reading, though fiction, for Canadians wanting to understand Newfoundland. Starting in the 1800's it follows the families of a Newfoundland outport community through 3 or 4 generations. A bit of a whale story, you may find yourself hooked, as I was, from the first pages. I had read Michael Crummey short stories before (thanks, Paulette Cake for putting me on to this author) but the novel form of Galore certainly works.
