I think this is essential reading, though fiction, for Canadians wanting to understand Newfoundland. Starting in the 1800's it follows the families of a Newfoundland outport community through 3 or 4 generations. A bit of a whale story, you may find yourself hooked, as I was, from the first pages. I had read Michael Crummey short stories before (thanks, Paulette Cake for putting me on to this author) but the novel form of Galore certainly works. Nice final pages paralleling the novel's beginning.
