I don't think this book is going to be for everyone, but it definitely worked for me. My 10 year old to whom I read it aloud also really enjoyed it. Without question this is a 5 star rating and I think everyone should give it a try. The content may be scary/violent for children. I would recommend this for mature middle grade readers and young adults. ...more

The Graveyard Book is still one of my favorite middle grade books. This time I reread it to child #2. He loved it. I always get a little teary-eyed at the end.

Nobody Owens, Bod for short, is a toddler when his family is murdered by a man named Jack. Bod manages to escape and end up in a graveyard. Two of the ghosts in the graveyard adopt Bod and Silas, a mysterious figure who isn't alive or dead, becomes his guardian. Gaiman fully imagines the ghosts in the graveyard and Bod's world growing up there. It took me awhile to get into the book but by the end I was entranced and wished the book was longer. ...more

Although I loved the writing style, it was way too dark for me. I don't have much time and need to read lighter things. I think it was good- just too dark for me. ...more

This was really a young adults book, but there were some charming sections and I loved the premise. It takes a graveyard to raise a child.
